SHY CATS
Gold Sponsor Shy Cats | Silver Sponsor Shy Cats
The Shy Cats’ Room was started in 2014 to provide a quiet place for cats that were a little more timid to better acclimate to life in the shelter. It was conceived as a space where comfort and quality of life was the focus for these shy felines. The room is filled with many custom cubbies and perches where the kitties can retreat to when they are not feeling sociable or if they begin to feel overwhelmed. The door to the room is often open so they can look out into the main shelter and become more comfortable with the hustle and bustle in the other rooms. There are also two exterior windows that allow them to watch birds, get some fresh air, and see the sun set. Kitties residing in the room that welcome attention enjoy having visitors come in to sit with them and many of them enjoy interactive toys. Our Crime Cats Mystery Club reading program for young readers is housed in the room and the program helps advance the socialization process of the shy cats while helping children build confidence reading aloud. Patience, understanding, kindness, and feeling safe helps many of these cats overcome their shyness. While many of the Shy Cats’ Room cats are adoptable, some will end up being permanent residents of our shelter due to their timid nature. You can see how the Shy Cats’ Room kitties are doing by visiting their YouTube page here.
fiv+ Cats
Gold Sponsor FIV cats | Silver Sponsor FIV cats
The FIV Cats have a room that was made to provide cats with FIV a place to socialize with other FIV cats and have a comfortable place to play and hang out. There are many cat trees and perches in the room for them to choose from and plenty of room for people to come in and play or just hang out with the kitties. Our FIV cats love having visitors especially when they come in, sit down, and free up their lap for some cuddling. Some of the kitties in the room are a little more timid and having the space for people to sit and work with them on their confidence will greatly help increase their chances of adoption. The room even has an attached outdoor enclosure so those kitties can safely hang out outside when they want to get some fresh air. There also are FIV Cats that reside elsewhere in the shelter in cat condos as they get acclimated to the shelter and others that have the freedom to roam the shelter as floor cats. Sponsors may hear stories from any FIV cat. Kitties with FIV are often misunderstood and some people falsely believe they can catch FIV from these sweet felines. People and other animals cannot get FIV. FIV can be passed to another feline through a deep bite wound. FIV cats have weakened immune systems so they are more at risk of having side effects from common diseases, wounds, or infections so routine medical care is essential for these sweeties. We hope that one day when all adopters hear a cat has FIV that it will no longer result in some of those potential adopters becoming disinterested in the kitty.
TIGGER
Gold Sponsor Tigger | Silver Sponsor Tigger
Tigger came to Cat Welfare in 2016 when she was around 6 years old. She is a beautiful, super sweet tiger girl who loves attention. If you are looking for a kitty that will sit on your lap for hours on end when you visit the shelter, then Tigger is your girl. Don’t be concerned though if while she is sitting on your lap if her tail starts twitching or flapping. That is Tigger’s way of showing you she is happy. Tigger was adopted three times and was returned all three times for not using the litter box. She refuses to poop in a litter box and prefers to do so in a newly washed bed. Once she has soiled the bed, Tigger will get a case of the zoomies which alerts the staff to find her pile. She is also known for her impressive spraying abilities. Tigger has a special custom-made collar that her best buddy Megan got for her. It says Queen Tigger on it and Tigger, also known as Tiggy, knows that makes her super special and that she is extra loved. Tigger is very gentle natured and walks in the most delicate manner appearing to be walking in high heels or on her tippy toes. Tigger hopes you will come in to visit her soon – just come prepared to provide a lap for her to sit on or ready to play a game of “catch” the toy with her.
THOMAS
Gold Sponsor Thomas | Silver Sponsor Thomas
Thomas came to Cat Welfare in early 2019 when he was approximately 6 years old. He was dumped at the shelter’s door with no notes or info about him. His sweet face and inquiring eyes draw people to him. Sometimes he can be a bit shy and patience is needed at times to gain his trust. Thomas likes to hang out in the medical area of the shelter. He often can be found on the cat tree near the exam room door and from there he likes to keep any eye on all the new arrivals. He also likes to monitor what the staff is doing. If he is wanting attention and is not getting it, then he will reach a paw out to make things a little more obvious. He can always be counted on to try and steal a bite of chicken from someone’s lunch. Thomas always wants to follow his meal up with a drink of water from the faucet. He makes his wishes very clear by sitting in the sink and the staff is always sure to turn the faucet on for him. Thomas has never been adopted and is not technically available for adoption. But if the right person comes along and gains his trust after multiple visits, then adoption may be possible. Thomas hopes that you’ll choose him to be your friend.
