Ten of our favourite mystical cat names:

  1. Aurora - otherwise known as the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights, many moons ago these lights were thought to be the spirits of the dead dancing across the night sky. Pretty other-worldly, eh?
  2. Celeste - comes from the Latin word for ‘heavenly’, because we know that being at home with your pet cat is heaven on earth.
  3. Circe - a sorceress from ancient Greek mythology known for changing Odysseus and his men into pigs (we know pigs are cute, but there was a clear message there!). Can you think of a better mystical cat name?
  4. Cosmo or Cosmos - while a cosmo co*cktail isn’t that mystical in itself, Cosmos symbolises the harmonious relationship between everything in our universe, from the planets, stars and galaxies to all living beings (including our furry friends).
  5. Estrella - means ‘star’ in Spanish. Stars guide us through physical and mental pathways (a bit like our magical cats) and symbolise divinity and the spiritual world.
  6. Hocus Pocus - “double, double toil and trouble; fire burn, and cauldron bubble” - or words to that effect. A cat named Hocus Pocus would fit in just as well with a loving family as with the witches of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’.
  7. Houdini - the mysterious Harry Houdini was a 19th-century escape artist and magician. The name works like magic for mystical kitties, even if they can’t hold their breath as long as Houdini could.
  8. Merlin - wizard and legendary advisor to King Arthur. As the embodiment of magic itself, the name Merlin conjures up an image of a wise-looking kitty with white hair long enough to compete with Merlin’s beard.
  9. Tarot - a deck of tarot cards is used for fortune-telling and spiritual lessons. Let your Tabby Tarot Reader tell you your future with those entrancing green eyes…
  10. Zodiac - the 12 zodiac signs can be used to explain personality traits as well as predict the future. If you know your kitty’s birthday, why not name them after their zodiac sign?

Mystical black cat names

Mythical stories and superstitions (good and bad) have followed black cats by the tail for centuries. In Japan, they are symbols that a woman will be lucky in love. In Scotland, a black cat on the doorstep is a sign of prosperity, and sailors used to think having a black cat on board would ensure a safe crossing. But unfortunately, black cats are also seen as a symbol of bad luck to those whose paths they cross and the untrustworthy companions to witches. If you’ve just decided to welcome a black cat to your fur-ever home, consider giving it one of these mystical cat names.

  1. Abracadabra - with a wave of your magic wand!
  2. Bermuda - aka the mysterious Bermuda Triangle.
  3. Coven - a group of witches.
  4. Eclipse - when light is obscured.
  5. Hanwi - the moon spirit known as ‘Night Sun’ in Sioux mythology.

  14. Voodoo - relating to sorcery and spirituality.

Mystical names for white cats

  1. Aura - the atmosphere surrounding a body.

Mystical Siamese cat names

As descendants from the sacred temple cats in Siam (now Thailand), it’s only fitting that your Siamese cat has a mystical cat name to match. Meaning ‘moon diamond’ in Thai, the Siamese cat was thought of as a spirit guardian whose body became the resting place for the souls of important people. Featuring in the TV series ‘Charmed’, the Siamese cat is a symbol of luck and is thought to ward off evil omens.

  1. Ajax - an ancient Greek hero.
  2. Astrid - meaning ‘divinely beautiful’.
  3. Chakra - the seven energy points of the body.
  4. Charm - magical control and the power to delight.
  5. Kaia - from the Scandinavian word for ‘pure’.
  6. Lorelei - a nymph from German legend.
  7. Moira - meaning ‘destiny’.
  8. Rune - comes from the Germanic word for ‘mystery’.
  9. Sol - meaning ‘sun’ in Spanish.
