Dorothy Dow

Mrs. Dorothy Dow, age 83, of the Lone Oak Community of Meriwether County, passed away Saturday, August 27, 2016, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Mrs. Dow was born July 31, 1933, in McMinnville, Tennessee, daughter of the late Wilson and Laverne Fitts Reed. A former resident of College Park, she had lived in Lone Oak since 1988 and was a member of Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church, where she had been active in the WMU. Survivors include her sons and daughter in-law, Kenneth Dow and Phillip and Beth Dow, all of Lone Oak; brother and sister in-law, Norman and Kathleen Reed of Kennesaw; sisters in-law, Ann Veal of Fairburn, Rose Maxwell of Lavonia; grandchildren, Chris Dow, Brandon Dow and his wife Kristi, Grant Dow and his wife Rachel, Andrew Dow and his wife Tiffany, and Sarah Ogle and her husband David; nine great-grandchildren and one soon to arrive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Dow and her daughter, Joy Sanders. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Friday, September 2, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Michael McFarlin and the Reverend Richard Campbell will officiate and interment will be in Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church Cemetery in Lone Oak. Allissa Michelle Chapman-Keith

Allissa Michelle Chapman-Keith,age 47, of Woodbury, Georgia, passed away at her home on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. A Celebration of Life memorial service was held at 3:00 pm Saturday, August 20th, 2016 at 14774 Georgia Highway 85 Woodbury, GA. Ms. Allissa was born November 5, 1968 in Newnan, Georgia to Jayne Browning and Troy Chapman. After graduating from high school, she began her career as a private caregiver for local people in the Meriwether County area. She loved her family dearly especially her children and granddaughter. She will be remembered as a very giving and unselfish person to all she met. She was preceded in death by her father, Troy Chapman, and grandmother, Betty Alexander. Survivors include her mother, Jayne Browning of Woodbury, Georgia; children, Brittany Smith and Wesley Keith of Woodbury, Georgia; granddaughter, Annie Lee Rouse of Woodbury, Georgia; and sisters, Joy Phillips of Manchester, Georgia, Lyn Fowler of Newnan, Georgia, and Buffy Mitchell of Manchester, Georgia. Mrs. Jerri Ann Roughton, age 71, a resident of Valley, AL passed away Thursday, August 25, 2016 at EAMC Lanier.Funeral services were held at Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at 2:00 pm.Rev. Brad Reed officiated.The family received friends from 1:00 – 200 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.A private burial followed in Shawmut Cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Lorri Frank (Carlos) & Ronnie Roughton; grandchildren, Avery Frank, Rylee Roughton & Addison Miller.She was preceded in death by her parents, Hassell & Huldah Oliver and her sister, Sandra Patterson. The family would like to thank her friends and neighbors who looked after her during her illness.Mrs. Roughton was born in Langdale, AL and was a bank teller at Farmer’s and Merchant’s Bank and prior to that she taught day care in Valdosta, GA. Mr. James “Jim” Blackstone, Jr., age 81, of West Point, GA passed away on Saturday morning, August 27, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Blackstone is survived by his wife, Gail Thompson Blackstone of West Point, GA; his four children, Vicky Lee Blackstone of Laurens, SC, Jeanne Blackstone (Charles) McNichols of Charlotte, NC, Lisa Blackstone Allred of Greenville, SC, and Jim (Martha) Blackstone, III of Spartanburg, SC; his seven grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Allred, Matthew Christopher Allred, Bailee Allred Fralick, Taylor Fralick, Virginia Grace Blackstone, Mary Cameron Blackstone, and Lydia Katherine Blackstone; his sister, LaVerne Blackstone Thomas of Powder Springs, GA; his brother, Frank Rhoades (Theresa) Blackstone; his four nieces, Susan Dease, Regina Ann Rose, Aileen Rose, and Julia Green. Mr. Blackstone was born on February 4, 1935 in Augusta, GA.He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lagrange, GA. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech and a U.S. Navy veteran from 1954 – 1956, serving on the U.S.S. Waldron. He went on 22 mission trips.Funeral services were held on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Rev. Doug Decelle and the Rev. Jan Tolbert officiated.Interment followed in Fairfax Cemetery in Valley, AL.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society in his memory.

Susie “Sue” Margaret Craft Lindsey

Mrs. Susie “Sue” Margaret Craft Lindsey, age 80, of Lanett, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at her residence. Mrs. Lindsey was born on June 10, 1936 in Little Texas, Alabama to the late Lonnie T. Craft and Mary Eunice Sego Craft. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. EDT at the Providence Baptist Church in Lanett with interment in Resthaven Cemetery. The Rev. Ronald McManus

Mr. Ronald McManus, age 82, of Lanett, AL passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at his residence. Mr. McManus is survived by his wife, Peggy Wheat McManus; his four children, David McManus, Jody McManus (Bob) Elmore, Patricia McManus McDonald, and Bryan Lee (Tammy) McManus; his brother, Joel McManus; his 11 grandchildren and his five plus great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Posey McManus and Ruth King McManus; six siblings, Norma Jean Smith, Wanda Lee Stiles, Harvard McManus, Bill McManus, Pete McManus, and Sue Compton. Mr. McManus was born on June 4, 1934 in Lanett, AL. He was a member of the Lanett First Baptist Church. He served in the U. S. Navy for 21 years and taught school in Lanett for 21 years. He was an avid golfer who loved to teach his children and great grandchildren the game.Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Lanett First Baptist Church. Rev. Ronnie Jordan officiated.Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery in Lanett.The family received friends Wednesday evening at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Valley. Mr. Jay Allen Danford, age 46, of the Lake Harding Community passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016 at his residence. Mr. Danford is survived by his two children, Jacob Danford and Jordan Danford; special friend and sister of Jordan and Jacob, Sarah Alexander; siblings, Brad (Angela) Danford, Danny (Carla) Danford, Dean (Tonya) Danford, and Traci (Mark) Gilson; special niece, Kori Danford, nieces and nephews, Jessica, Logan, Ashley, Kayla, Leah, Seth, Jared, and Kendal; several great nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby Frank Danford and Barbara Richardson Danford. Mr. Danford was born on September 2, 1969 in Langdale, AL.He was of the Baptist faith. He worked for many years at West Point Stevens and Benteler Automotive. He was a fun loving person who was always laughing.He would help anyone in need if he could.He was an outdoorsman who loved to fish and was a great cook.He enjoyed fixing things, going out on his boat, and watching Alabama football.He loved his two children very much and always loved to spend time with them. Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 4:00 PM at the Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home Chapel in Valley. Josiahs Donarion Whitehead

Josiahs Donarion Whitehead was born November 26, 2005 to LaShanta Whitehead and Kelvin Brewer in LaGrange, Georgia. He was a fifth grade student at Callaway Elementary School. On Friday, August 19, 2016 at WellStar West Georgia Medical Center, precious baby boy Josiahs was called home with the angels. He leaves to cherish the blessing of his short life, his mother, LaShanta Whitehead; father, Kelvin Brewer; brothers, Ty Whitehead and KenDaz Goode; grandparents, Mary Dawson and Larry Whitehead; and Tina (Chris) Huzzie; aunts, LaRissa Brewer, Tamekia Brewer, co*kethia Brewer; uncles, Larry Whitehead, Jr., Terrano Dawson; great aunts, Betty Sue Reed, Ruth Flowers, Julia (Eddie) Reeves, and Jennifer Brewer; close friends, Jim DiBauda, Eddie Johnson, Jr. and Corey Harris; and a host of cousins and friends.
