Cache Creek originates from and is the sole outlet of Clear Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake located entirely in California and among the world's oldest lakes. North Fork Cache Creek originates at Goat Mountain in the Mendocino National Forest and runs 16 miles before flowing into Indian Valley Reservoir.

In 1992, Corey Barton started building homes with a hammer, a pick-up truck, and a will to succeed. The rest, as they say, is history. Thirty one years and 26,000 homes later, things look a lot different than they did in 1992. Today, we're a nationally-ranked powerhouse and a staple of the Treasure Valley community.

Cache Creek and three of its tributaries (Bear Creek, Sulphur Creek, and Harley Gulch) are on the Clean Water Act 303(d) List for impairment by mercury.

The name refers to the fur trade era of the early 1800s, when supplies were "cached" nearby by the fur traders. The Bonaparte Indian Reserve just north of Cache Creek took its name after the French emperor who died in the same year the Hudson's Bay Company took over the fur trade in the region.
